Exact Detail Replicas 1968 Shelby GT500KR, Limited Edition 1/18th Scale
The "KR" stood for "King of the Road" - a name that was supposedly taken from General Motors, who was going to use the moniker on a big-block version of their Camaro, but that sly Texan Carroll Shelby beat them to the punch (something he enjoyed doing to GM both on and off the track). The GT-500KR used Ford's new 428 Cobra Jet engine opposed to the 428ci Police Interceptor engines used in the '67 and '68 GT500's. The 335-hp claimed by Shelby was most likely a gross understatement, but was a number given to help lower insurance costs. A total of 933 GT-500KR fastbacks were produced along with 318 convertibles, and they are the most sought after versions of the '68 model year. This Lane GT-500KR is perfect for a true car fan. The fully wired and plumbed engine is complete with correct coloring and replica decals. Even the radiator cap is shiny chrome. Opening the two doors will reveal outstanding interior detail from the gauges to the floor board. The trunk holds a little tool box and spare, and even a replica Shelby cowboy hat!
